Cricket's Three Formats and How They Differ for Betting

Cricket's three main formats — T20, ODI, and Test — each have their own character. A T20 match finishes in just a few hours, the scoring pace is intense every over, and the result can change on the final ball. This is why live betting is most popular in T20 matches.

ODI involves a longer contest over fifty overs. Strategy shifts mid-innings, and the pace of the match changes sharply during the powerplay and death overs. Markets such as top batsman and over/under runs are used most in ODI betting.

Test cricket is a five-day game of patience. A draw is a valid result, so the betting options include a three-outcome market — Team A wins, Team B wins, or draw. Pitch behaviour and weather play an important role in Test betting.

For Bangladesh supporters, BPL and IPL are the most-followed tournaments. King's markets are also active for the ICC T20 World Cup and Bangladesh Tigers international series.

king Cricket Format T20 ODI Test Comparison

T20

Fast Format

Results come quickly in a 20-over game. This format is most active for live betting and over-under markets. BPL and IPL are both played in the T20 format.

ODI

50 Overs

Momentum shifts repeatedly through the long innings. Top run-scorer, leading wicket-taker, and total runs markets are popular in ODI.

Test

5 Days

A three-outcome market (win, loss, draw) sets this format apart. There is an opportunity to analyse the situation at every session of the match.

Football and Other Sports — Betting Beyond Cricket

king Football and Cricket Sports Betting

At king you can bet on football as well as cricket. In football, match time is a fixed 90 minutes — there is no special arrangement for draws (a draw in regulation time counts as a separate result). Handicap markets, first goalscorer, both teams to score — these varied options make football betting different.

Football has no coin toss the way cricket does. In cricket, the toss is available as a separate betting market — this does not exist in football. king also has options for tennis, kabaddi, and other sports.

In cricket, odds can shift frequently throughout the match based on overs and wickets, which is a different experience from the goal-based changes in football. This is why many bettors find cricket's live markets more fast-moving.

Table games and card games are also available in king's Live Casino section. For more details, visit the king Casino page.

Popular Cricket Betting Markets and Examples

The markets below are used most at king. A simple explanation and example is given for each.

Match Winner

Betting on which team will win the match. Team A vs Team B — pick either one. No draw in T20; in Test, draw is also an option.

Toss Winner

Betting on which team wins the toss. Available before the match starts and the result is known within the first few minutes — this is a short-term market.

Top Batsman

Betting on which batter will score the most runs in an innings or across the full match. The market may also appear as "Team A's highest scorer" without naming a player.

Total Runs Over/Under

Betting on whether the total runs in an innings or a specific set of overs will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number. For example: powerplay runs over/under 50 in 6 overs.

Multi Bet

Combining multiple matches or events into a single bet. You win only if every selection is correct; if even one is wrong, the entire stake is lost. Higher return, but higher risk.

When the Wicket Falls

Betting on which over or at what run score the first wicket will fall. This market is especially active during powerplay overs in T20 and ODI.

Handicap

Betting with a virtual advantage or disadvantage given to one team. For example, if Team A is given a 20-run handicap, their actual winning margin must be more than 20.

Odds in Three Formats — How to Read and Understand Them

Cricket betting odds are written in three different ways. All three say the same thing — only the way they are expressed differs.

The Key Thing to Remember

1
Multiplying the decimal odds directly gives you the total return — the simplest method.
2
Fractional odds are more common in British bookmakers. 2/1 means "two to one" — profit is double the stake.
3
In American odds, plus (+) means underdog — lower probability, higher return. Minus (−) means favourite.
4
All three formats give the same information. At king you can view odds in whichever format you prefer.

Live In-Play Betting — When Wickets and Overs Shift the Odds

At king you can place bets while the match is in progress — this is live in-play betting. This type of betting is especially fast-moving for cricket, because every wicket, every over, and a big shot have an immediate effect on the odds.

Say Team A has had a good start in the powerplay of a T20 match and has not lost a wicket. The odds for Team A winning will shorten (meaning Team A is now the favourite), and Team B's odds will lengthen. But if two wickets fall in the next over, the situation can reverse completely.

In a Test match, when the pitch starts breaking up it becomes easier for spinners and harder for the batting side. At this point, live odds move quickly. Decisions in live betting need to be made fast, as the market can change within seconds.

In ODI, live odds are heavily affected after a mid-innings Duckworth-Lewis situation or a rain break. Analysing the match situation and betting at moments like these is a different kind of experience.

Alongside slots and other casino games, real-time gaming is also available in the HRG Live section. Full details are on the HRG Live gaming page.

Practical Tips for Cricket Betting

Keeping the points below in mind will make your betting experience more organised. Betting is for entertainment — there is no guarantee of specific profit or income.

1
Set a budget. Decide how much you will bet in each session beforehand and do not go beyond that limit.
2
Do not put everything on one match. Placing smaller bets across multiple markets reduces the damage from a single wrong decision.
3
Understand the format before betting. T20 and Test markets are different. Focus on the format where you feel most comfortable.
4
No rushing in live betting. When odds are changing fast, take a moment to observe the situation rather than making an instant decision.
5
Be careful with multi bets. Multi bets offer higher returns, but if one selection is wrong, the entire stake is lost. It is better not to add too many legs.
6
Compare odds. Odds for the same match can differ across markets. Decimal format is the easiest way to compare.
7
Treat it as entertainment. Cricket betting is for enjoyment. Avoid placing bigger bets in an attempt to recover losses.

Cricket Betting FAQ

In T20, results come within just 20 overs, so odds shift quickly and live betting moves faster. In ODI, the longer 50-over innings offers far more markets, such as runs in each powerplay, mid-innings score, and so on. T20 has no draw, so the market has two outcomes; Test has three, including a draw.

Decimal 3.00 means your stake comes back three times over. If you place a ৳500 bet and win, you receive ৳1,500 — that is ৳1,000 profit plus your original ৳500 stake. If you lose, your ৳500 is gone. This is equal to fractional 2/1 and American +200.

Since BPL is a T20 format, match winner, toss winner, powerplay runs over/under, and top batsman are the most popular markets. In live betting, new odds come in after every over. It is also possible to add multiple BPL matches together in a multi bet.

Multiply the decimal odds of the three selections together. Example: 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.90 = 3.99 (rounded). With a ৳100 stake, you would get back ৳399 if you win. However, if even one selection is wrong, you lose the full ৳100. The more legs you add, the higher the potential return — but the risk of losing also increases.

If the match is completely cancelled or abandoned, the stake is generally returned (void bet). If a result is determined by the Duckworth-Lewis method, the bet usually stands in most cases. For the specific rules, see king's terms and conditions.
